Walk in the Park

witp--nowitp

Try our newest addition to the AudioFuel collection, Walk in the Park.

This is a 40 walking workout that starts at 120 BPM and goes up to 137 BPM. It puts a super spring in your step, and gives you a workout as you walk to work, or walk for pleasure. Or as we found, if you are late to meet your mates in the pub!

Even super fit athletes will find real pleasure in motoring along the pavement overtaking everyone in sight, wearing shoes and a big smile. And trust us, walking at 137 BPM takes some effort!

Its comes
with and without coaching.

Do soundtracks for runners make exercising easier?

by Peta Bee

What is it?

A new service that provides downloadable soundtracks with a beat that precisely fits your running speed and the length of your daily jog. Select a running compilation of 20, 30 or 40 minutes’ duration from the dozens on offer, download it to your iPod or MP3 player, and off you trot. Each bespoke compilation, developed with the help of top runners, includes an eight-minute voiceover detailing a warm-up and stretch out routine and a five-minute cool down.

Who’s it aimed at?
Runners of any level in training for this year’s London Marathon or any other event.

What’s the idea?
For some people, music can boost sports performance. Research by Dr Costas Karageorghis, a sport psychologist at Brunel University, has shown that a good tune can distract the mind, enabling the body to work harder.

In one of his studies, Karageorghis found that exercisers who listened to music put in up to 10 per cent more effort without realising it. Motivating music has also been also shown to boost mood during a workout and can make you feel more alert, all of which means that you get more return for your sweaty efforts. With audiofuel, the aim is to keep your feet moving in time with the beat.

Who uses it?
Several Olympic athletes are using it at the moment. In a survey by Runner’s World magazine, around half of all regular runners said that they like to run with music.

Can I try it?
Log on to audiofuel.co.uk and you can choose from a range of musical runs of different length and intensity. A 20-minute “Shoot the Breeze” medium-intensity workout costs £5; a 40-minute “Adrenaline Junkie” running accompaniment is £10.

Coming soon is a ten-week “Fuel Me Fit” programme that aims to transform you from a walker to a runner through music. If you like the approach, you could always enter the UK’s only musical half-marathon on September 27 (runtothebeat.co.uk) in London.

Is it worth the money?
According to sports psychologists there are two types of exerciser: associators, who are entirely tuned in to their workout, and disassociators, who like to switch off and forget what they are doing. If, like me, you fall into the former camp you will find music an unnecessary intrusion when you run and will be content with the monotone sound of your own breath as a background beat. For the rest of you, audiofuel could be just what you need to put wings on your heels.
